Lawn Club Brings The Olympics to Spinningfields - A Recap of Our Epic FanZone Experience

This summer, Shiko Group’s very own Lawn Club were part of turning Spinningfields into the ultimate Olympic and Paralympic FanZones. With a massive 13ft screen on its lawn, deck chairs for spectators to catch all the action in the sun, and some surprise special guests, this Olympic season was one to remember.

A Summer of Sport at The Lawn Club

It’s no secret that The Lawn Club has been the ultimate hub for all sports this summer. From the Euros to Wimbledon and then the Olympics and Paralympics, The Lawn Club became Manchester’s go-to spot for catching all the action throughout its Summer of Sport. Whether you were a die-hard sports fan or were more of a social spectator, the atmosphere was unbeatable all around.

Fangirling in The FanZone

Not only were they showing all the action from the Olympics and Paralympics, but they brought the action and spirit to life on the lawn with two real-life Olympians joining them throughout the games. Sally Walton, the hockey powerhouse, and Bianca Walkden, the taekwondo champion, joined The Lawn Club for days filled with all the fun activations that Spinningfields had to offer. From NatWest’s messages to the Olympians and VR experience to Aldi’s cycling smoothie race, Sally and Bianca helped bring the Olympic energy to life in Spinningfields, leaving everyone feeling like a gold medalist for a day.

Getting to know an Olympian

Considering it’s not every day that you get to meet an Olympian, we decided to sit down with them and get the inside scoop on what it’s really like. Bianca, a three-time world champion, four-time European champion and two-time Olympic medalist in taekwondo revealed to us that the hardest part about her sport is the sheer physical demand, though we weren’t surprised! As for where she keeps her medal, it’s in a drawer at home - a slightly more surprising discovery. And because we couldn’t resist, we asked Bianca if taekwondo were a cocktail, what would it be? Bianca chose a strawberry daiquiri - sweet, sharp, packs a punch and is a Lawn Club classic!

A Thank You to Our Partners and Guests

If you joined us at our official Olympic Fanzone this summer for the games, or for any of our Summer of Sport, I’m sure you can agree it was an unforgettable experience. But, we couldn’t have done it without everyone who came and got stuck in. Whether you joined us for a match on the big screen, fancied your chances at one of the Olympic activations, or just came to enjoy the atmosphere - we loved every second of it.

We can’t wait to keep bringing the energy on the lawn with even more exciting events in the works.
